Certificate in Academic Skill Development I

The Academic Skill Development course is designed to assist students in the development of post-secondary level skills necessary for academic tasks such as adequate reading speed and understanding, written reports and essays, grammar and syntax for both written and spoken communication, as well as speaking skills for group academic discussions; Students who complete this program will develop the academic skills necessary to comfortably and confidently work in a contemporary Canadian post-secondary study environment.

Certificate in Academic Skill Development II

Building on the first program, Academic Skill Development II prepares students for further development of their academic skills so they can comfortably and confidently process and produce advanced level materials in a contemporary Canadian post-secondary study environment and will be able to read higher-level complexity materials at larger volumes with adequate speed and understanding, process and respond better to verbal lectures, present more effectively, and write essays and reports in an accepted academic style utilizing more complex grammar and syntax.

Academic Skill Development I
English language proficiency demonstrated by one of the following:

  • IELTS 4.0
  • Score of 45% on the Oscar International College Assessment Test

Academic Skill Development II
English language proficiency demonstrated by one of the following:

  • Completion of Academic Skill Development I
  • IELTS 5.0
  • Score of 55% on the Oscar International College Assessment Test

This program does not require approval by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training. As such, the registrar did not review this program. Students may not file a claim against the Student Protection Fund in relation to this program.
